Crunches challenge

Kitzzy asked about a Crunches Challenge. What a great idea! I looked and could only find challenges that strived to get 1000 per week, or 10000 per year. I'm looking for something like the pushups and C5K where it's basically a training program.

I wish I knew more about this stuff, we could make up our own. I'm wondering if we couldn't use the same formula for the pushups one for the situps? I don't know how many we should be building to, or how fast. When I was in my 20's and 30's, I used to do 100 situps every morning and also before going out. Then more during step class.

So the question is, what is the crunch equivalent of 100 pushups or a 5K? What number is hard enough to take 6-8 weeks to get there, but is reasonable for a person starting out to strive for? 200, 250? Is that enough?

Does anyone have any ideas for this? Does one of you have/know a trainer that you could ask what a reasonable goal is?

I'd love to do this if we can figure out a plan.

My boyfriend and I are going to try this. He suggests just using the same scale for the crunches. Of course, you would do a separate fitness test for each and may start in a different column for crunches as you would for push ups.

So is this supposed to be full push ups? It turns out that my arms will not hold my body weight to do a full push up, but I can do about 8 girl push ups. So I think I am going to do the program with girl push ups and once I can do 100 of those, I'll do it again with full push ups.

You read my mind on the girl pushups then again reg pushups. That's what I'm going to do

BTW I talked to Steve, the guy who is putting on the Pushup Challenge, he's going to see if he can find out anything about one for Crunches - or possibly create one.He seemed really nice. I will let you know if he comes back to me with anything. He has an amazing fitness blog. When I get back to a PC I will post the link to it for you guys

I tried the test again and manged about 2, but it was sooo hard. I may try it for day 1, but if not I'll do the girl pushup then again with full.

He had this to say when I emailed him:

I'm sure the same progression would work for crunches. I'm much better at crunches too. Maybe you could double the figure and see how that goes?

"Girl" push ups are fine in my opinion. In fact the main concept of the program is a gradual progression, so even any improvement is better than nothing right? The magic one hundred could just have easily been 50 or 80 or 200 I guess, but 100 is a nice round figure.

Wow, that's a lot of crunches! :-) I can't do pushups at all. My right wrist is pretty weak, even with months of strength training. And I do my crunches on a stability ball or the Bender Ball. Does that count??? ;-)

You are doing a great job. Keep making healthy choices!

I'd like to join you guys, too. I'm rejoining a bootcamp this summer, and they are crazy 'bout the pushups (I started off with the girl ones and progressed to the full...but I'm back where I started now. lol) AND situps. Thanks for the possible, further motivation!
